The price for a commission can vary depending on the size of canvas, style, subject, medium and somtimes time-line.For example my last client had a semi abstract painting of their home in Acrylic paint on canvas(110cm wide by 70cm high) and the price was GBP320.
Each commission is signed (if you so wish!) and comes complete with a certificate of authenticity and a brief description of how the painting was created.
Through my own experience I have come to realize that certain factors are needed for a truly successful commission, the most important being a good understanding of what the client wants .Traditionally a client would order a commission with very little input, however I want to ensure that my clients are getting the options needed for a truly exceptional piece of art.A commission is something very special indeed, its a real chance for someone who does not paint to almost create them selves a work of art!.A piece of art individual to them, I want to use the clients vision, ideas and even emotion and translate it onto canvas. Some commissions are more personal than others, some clients like to have their input all the way through the painting process. Some clients have very little input, each commission is different.
Below I have put together a guide which has been broken down into three simple steps, I have done this because I am all to aware how some people are slightly intimidated by the word "commission", the reality is with a healthy client-artist relationship you really can have the work of art you have always dreamt of!

You can send an image of your chosen subject via email or post.Once I have received your image you can visit my (portfolio page) and look through the various styles in which I work, this can be a really useful tool in ascertaining the painting style you want, don't forget your looking at the style of the painting and not the subject, this is just to help me get a feel for what style of work you like.At this stage you would also need to think about the size of canvas, medium, budget and colour choice, normally I would discuss all the options over the telephone to get a true understanding of what's required, its entirely up to you how much input you have, either way I,m happy!..Before proceeding to step two everything needs to be confirmed (including the price & time-line) and a deposit of 25% of the total price is normally required.
Stage two is when I really start to plan the painting, the most important elements being the basic composition and the choice of palette. When I am happy with the painting plan I will send you a sketch of the composition and a photo of the palette. If you were not happy with the proposed plan I would repeat the process with a different composition and I would do this until you were happy!.When the painting plan is confirmed I can begin to start the painting.
There are no concrete time-lines however an average canvas would take two to three weeks, during this period you can have as many or as little updates (including photos) as you wish.
The last part of the painting process is the protective varnish, your options for varnish are matt, silk and gloss. When dried your commission is complete!, if you wish you are welcome to pick your painting up personally and I would be more than happy to show you around my studio.I do of course off free worldwide postage and packing. With every commission you will receive a description on how your painting was created and a certificate of authenticity. For every commission I offer reproduction Giclee prints of the painting at a 55% reduced price.Upon receipt of your commission and if you are 100% happy with all aspects of the work the remaining 75% of the price will be required to be paid in full.
The third and final step is for me the most exciting, the reason being is that I love to see persons reaction when they first see their commission (even when that is just an email!).
